A Journey


FANTASMAGORIE is a free performance and conservation campaign produced by Curmudgeon Group that brings to life the Amazon Rainforest and Coral Reef through live dance, film, music, and projection mapping set on the water.   Performances run Friday and Saturday evenings, July 22 - August 6.  

This first of its kind performance series takes audiences on a journey from the Great Lakes watershed to the Coral Reefs and into the heart of the Amazon River Basin, meeting wildlife and discovering all that our planet's diverse habitat has to offer along the way.  

Audiences of all ages will immerse themselves in this multi-media performance series set on the water at Humboldt Park Boathouse and Lagoon.  This free series is a highlight of the 2016 Night Out in the Parks summer program.

In a benefit relationship with the World Wildlife Fund, Fantasmagorie supports conservation initiatives in the Amazon River Basin and Mezo-American Reef.

Click below for the opportunity to donate to the World Wildlife Fund.  

All funds will be used for ongoing research projects in the Amazon River Basin overseen by WWF research staff, including wildlife and forest conservation.

Jessica Deahr

Currently in her 4th season as Artistic Director of Chicago Dance Crash, Jessica's choreographic resume includes evening length works such as "Gotham City", hailed by the Chicago Tribune as one of Chicago's Best in 2012, as well as many repertoire works appearing at The Dance Center of Columbia, Spring To Dance Festival, Governor's State University, Arts Midwest, X Fest, Dance Chicago (Outstanding New Voice 2011), DCASE Storefront Theater, and Victory Garden's Biograph Theater.  Jessica's versatility has led her to perform for companies from C5 Aerial and Instruments of Movement, and choreograph for clients such as the BBC and Chicago Tap Theatre.  

Jeff Hancock

Jeffery Hancock is a dancer, choreographer, costume designer and teacher.  He has choreographed work for the River North Dance Company, Hubbard Street II, the Edinburgh Festival, Princess Cruise Lines, the Pegasus Players, Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre, Chicago's Next Dance Festival, numerous regional companies, and Northwestern's Theatre and Interpretation Center.  He has choreographed and performed in numerous musical theater productions and danced with the Chicago Lyric Opera.  A founding member and former principal dancer for the River North Chicago Dance Company and a former Hubbard Street Dance Chicago company member, Hancock has been nominated for Ruth Page Awards for performance and choreography and is a grant recipient from the Illinois Arts Council.  Hancock teaches master classes nationally and internationally, and has also designed and constructed costumes for River North Dance Chicago, Robert Battle, Columbia College, Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre, Shirley Mordine, Ginger Farley, and many others.   

Arlen Hart

Arlen Hart is a chicago born composer based in Brooklyn, NY, who currently produces music for Cambodian singer Bochan, and is a founding member of the up and coming band, Lady Moon + The Eclipse.  He has written scores for numerous films including Rules of the Game, premiered at Lincoln Center and selected at Cannes Film Festival, Sin Matador, Ameteur Dictator, winner of the Audience Choice Award at Austin Film Festival, and The Comedy Club.  He has also written music for television and theatre productions across New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Humboldt Park Lagoon

Located in the heart of the Humboldt Park Community, Humboldt Park totals 219 acres, including green features such as an artificial turf soccer field, junior soccer field, lagoon, replica of the Chicago Cubs Stadium, the Puerto Rican Arts + Culture Museum, baseball fields, tennis courts, and playgrounds.  Humboldt Park is host to the Latin Jazz Festival and Puerto Rican Festival, and is the site of a wind turbine filtration system for Chicago's lagoons.  After school programs are offered throughout the school year with summer youth attending a popular 6-week day camp.  The Humboldt Park Advisory Council promotes ways for the community to better utilize Chicago Park District programs and facilities at Humboldt Park. 

Chicago Park District:  Night Out in the Parks

Presented by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Night Out in the Parks provides world-class performances in Chicago's neighborhood parks throughout the year.  Arts programming in neighborhoods across the city advances the goals of the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Cultural Plan.  In its fourth year, the 2016 Night Out in the Park series brings more than 1,000 events and programs to neighborhood parks throughout the city, making community parks safe havens and hubs of activity.
